Dinosaurs was one of Quercus’s giant format non-fiction illustrated books. These books were an impressive 43cm tall. The size allowed for images to be shown at a fantastic size and in the case of this one, even actual size dinosaurs. This was the first dinosaur book I’d ever worked on, where, unlike most dino books at the time, all the illustrations were done in the same style which gave it a lovely cohesive look. The heading font has very distinctive angles on it and I used similar angles on the cladograms, timelines and image boxes to tie it all together. For other markets the book was shrunk down and there was a different cover for those which I liked too.
